Brindo › Best app to clean up iPhone storage
Best app to clean up iPhone storage (2026)
Short answer: if photos fill your iPhone, start with Apple’s free Duplicates collection, then go through the rest with an app. The best one depends on how much you want to decide yourself. Brindo (free in beta), Swipewipe and Slidebox let you choose every photo. Clever Cleaner and Cleanup mark a “best” photo for you, which is faster but means checking what they picked.
“iPhone storage full” usually means photos: thousands of them, years of screenshots, and ten photos of the same thing. Here is what your iPhone can do for free, how the apps compare, and how to pick one.
First, see what is using the space
Open Settings → General → iPhone Storage. The bar at the top shows what takes the most room. If Photos is the biggest part, cleaning up your camera roll will free the most space. If it is Messages, large attachments are a quicker win.
What your iPhone already does, for free
- Duplicates and Merge. Photos finds copies of the same photo and merges them into one. Open Photos, tap Collections, then Utilities → Duplicates. Apple doesn’t say it finds similar shots, only duplicates.
- Screenshots. In Collections, scroll to Media Types → Screenshots to see them all in one place.
- Recently Deleted. Deleted photos stay there for 30 days, then they are gone for good and the space is free.
That clears exact copies. It doesn’t help with blurry photos, photos you never wanted, or twenty photos of the same thing. That is what the apps are for.

How to choose
If you’re scared to delete the wrong photo
Choose an app that never selects photos for you, so every removed photo is one you chose. It takes a little longer than letting an app pick; in exchange, nothing goes that you didn’t decide. Brindo, Swipewipe and Slidebox work that way. More on this in how to clean up without deleting the wrong photos.
If you have thousands of photos and don’t know where to start
Swiping makes a big pile one decision per photo, month by month, and Brindo picks up where you left off. It also puts similar photos on one card, so twenty photos of the same thing take two choices: keep your favourite, hold ✕ for the rest.
If you want it done for you
AI cleaners are quicker, but they decide which photo is “best”. Look at every photo they selected before you tap Delete.
Check the price before a free trial
Several cleaners charge by the week. Check the price and the trial length on the App Store listing before you start a trial.
How to free up space with Brindo
- Install the beta from TestFlight (it may still be called PhotoPick) and allow access to your photos.
- Swipe through your camera roll: ♥ right to keep, ✕ left to remove. Similar photos and copies come together on one card.
- Open Brindo’s trash, look over what you removed, and tap Delete when you’re sure.
- To get the space back straight away, empty Recently Deleted in Photos. Otherwise it frees itself after 30 days.
Questions people ask
What is the best free app to clean up iPhone storage?
Start with what your iPhone already has: the Duplicates collection in Photos merges duplicates for free. For everything else, most cleaner apps are free to download with limits. Brindo is free during its public beta, with no ads or daily limit, and never picks photos for you.
Why is my iPhone storage still full after deleting photos?
Deleted photos stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days and keep using space until then. To free the space sooner, open Photos, tap Collections, open Recently Deleted (under Utilities) and delete them there, but only once you’re sure, because that step can’t be undone.
Should I just pay for more iCloud storage?
More iCloud storage keeps everything, including the blurry photos and the ten photos of the same thing, and you keep paying for it. Going through your photos once frees space on your iPhone and in iCloud, and leaves you with photos you actually want to look at.
Does Brindo find blurry photos for me?
No. Brindo never judges or scores photos. You see each one, so a blurry photo is easy to swipe away, and a blurry photo you love stays.
Is it safe to use a photo cleaner app?
On iPhone, every app has to ask iOS before deleting, and deleted photos go to Recently Deleted for 30 days. The risk is the step before: some apps select what to delete for you. Check every selected photo, or use an app where you choose each one. See how to clean up safely.
How do I free up storage on iPhone without deleting photos?
Turn on iCloud Photos with Optimize iPhone Storage (in Settings, under your name → iCloud → Photos). Full-size photos stay in iCloud and your iPhone keeps smaller versions, but you may need a bigger iCloud plan. To free space without paying more, delete the photos you don’t want.
Do photo cleaner apps work with iCloud Photos?
Yes. They work on your Photos library, so with iCloud Photos on, a photo deleted on your iPhone is deleted on all your devices and frees space in iCloud too.
